Montgomery County firefighter arrested for controlled substance, tampering with evidence after crash involving 4 vehicles, Conroe police say
CONROE, Texas (KTRK) -- An off-duty Montgomery County firefighter was arrested on Thursday evening following a 4-vehicle crash that sent multiple people to the hospital, Conroe police said.
According to the Conroe Police Department, officers responded to a major crash at the intersection of Avenue M Extension and Cedar Way Street at about 7:40 p.m.
Investigators said that a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Avenue M Extension and stopped before trying to turn onto Cedar Way. At that time, a Chevrolet Tahoe also traveling eastbound failed to control its speed and veered into oncoming traffic, police said. The Tahoe scraped the Accord and then hit a Chevrolet Suburban head-on, officials said, adding that a Toyota Rav4 also traveling eastbound then hit the Tahoe. Police said the Tahoe and the Suburban suffered "catastrophic damage."
The driver and two children from the Suburban were taken to the nearby hospital, officials said, with the driver and one of the juveniles in critical condition; the second juvenile was treated and released. Police said the driver of the Tahoe was taken to a local hospital as well and is expected to be OK.
Conroe PD said an investigation is underway to see if intoxication was a factor in the crash, with the District Attorney's Vehicular Crimes Unit assisting in the investigation.
Police said that during the aftermath of the crash, an off-duty firefighter with Montgomery County ESD #2, identified as 29-year-old Christopher Molina, arrived at the scene and tampered with physical evidence. Molina was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance, authorities said.
Officials did not say what the controlled substance was. Eyewitness News has reached out to Montgomery County ESD #2 for comment on the arrest, with no response at this time.
Conroe PD said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
